Little bit of Sadie and a little bit of...

Sadie continues to shoot up like a weed. She was officially 2 months old yesterday. I always thought it was really stupid that people said their kid was like 16 weeks old instead of 4 months, but I get it now. She'll be 9 weeks old tomorrow but is only 2 months old. Weird. But really, I'm a grown man. Should I have figured that out before now?

Oh well. Here's a picture of Sadie sitting beside her mom, watching her work.

UPDATE - Sadie had her 2 month checkup today and weighed 11 pounds and is 22 inches tall. She's not going to be a tall girl, I don't think... Otherwise, the Dr. said everything was perfect!

Also, this past weekend I had a bit of an experience/learning of a valuable life skill. Steph's parents have a farm in Danbury, NC. They've got about 100 acres of beautiful ATV trails, ponds, animals, the whole bit. They've got chickens that have been producing eggs for a little over a year now. In the Spring of 2012 they bought another dozen chicks to produce more eggs. Now, you may not know this, but it's really difficult to tell whether you've got a hen or a rooster until they grow up. It's a crap shoot, unless you process thousands of chickens and know exactly how to figure it out.
Well, of the dozen they bought this past Spring, 4 of them were roosters. Up until a few weeks ago, they were all peacefully coexisting. Then puberty hit.
The roosters starting crowing, fighting each other, and doing their best to get as many hens as they could. This caused the Hens to stress out and stop laying eggs. So on Saturday Bryan, Zach and myself went to the farm and dispatched with three of the roosters. We caught them, strung them up, chopped their heads off, plucked them (dip them in hot water for 30 seconds and the feathers just fall off), and Alan skinned them, cleaned them (food sac and stink sac? awesome.), and prepared them for a cookout. They're in the freezer at the farm, just waiting for the next Cox family get together.

It was not something I want to do every weekend, but it was a great skill I learned. We recorded it for posterity and took some pictures. I'm only posting one, and that'll be after the jump. If you don't want to see a bloody knife and a rooster head, don't go past the jump.

8 weeks old

Sadie is 8 weeks old today! People used to tell us how much time would seem to speed up once we had kids, and they weren't joking. I can't believe she's already 2 months old.

Sadie slept almost through the night last night. Her feedings have spread out at night, and she's been waking up once a night all week. Last night she fell asleep around 8:30 and didn't wake up until 4:00. Granted, when she woke up she was ready for the day, but she fell back asleep after about 45 minutes or so.

Every day she's showing more and more of her personality and inquisitiveness. She spent yesterday at Alison's while Steph helped Alison get ready for a moving sale. Steph said Sadie sat there most of the day just watching what they were doing.

It's so great to have such an amazing family. We're leaving for the beach next week to spend some time in Wilmington with my family and Holden with Steph's. It should be relaxing and a lot of fun. The place we're staying has wifi, so I'll try to detail each day, since this is mainly for our posterity.

Anyways, here's a picture of Sadie this morning. She's so happy.

Mom's Best Friend

This is what I have to leave every morning. It's not fair.
Sadie loves sitting beside Steph and just watching her. In the mornings after I wake up, Sadie gets in the bed and slowly wriggles her way over to her mom, getting as close as she possible can. Steph's starting working from home for the next few weeks, so she's working on the laptop a few hours a day. Sadie sits in her boppy and just watches Steph, makes faces at her and smiles.

Sadie is now trying to replicate the faces we make at her and the sounds we make. When she's in a really good mood, we have conversations. Granted, we're not solving world peace or anything, but we are making headway in the cooing and grunting department.

It's amazing to watch her grow and develop. And if you ask me, she's starting to look more and more like me. Poor girl...

6 weeks old

Well, Sadie is six weeks old now! Our little girl is growing up right before our eyes. She's becoming more and more responsive to us each day. We sat with her last night on the couch and she went back and forth between the two of us just smiling, cooing, staring. She's a wonderful baby.
Sleep is coming in longer spurts at night now too. It's quite nice, as I've never been one who could function with not a lot of sleep.
Steph's taken Sadie up to the farm today to relax a little. They should have a lot of fun.
Here's a picture from Steph's 6 week check up yesterday. Everything was great, according to Daniela.
She is a happy baby.

First Church visit

Sadie went to church for the first time yesterday. She did wonderfully well, just cried out once. Steph had to stand up with her at the back of the church for quite a bit because Sadie gets bored easily and has to have things to look at. The choir was thrilled to see her, and it was good to be back at rehearsal, even though we didn't sing at church.
We got to see Kyle and Hillary yesterday as well. They were in town for the weekend.
Here are some pics of her just because I like them.

Steph sent this one to me earlier today. It's crazy that she can sit in this thing now and hold her head up. She's growing so rapidly it's crazy. We're in the transition phase between newborn and 0-3 month clothes. I may be a little partial, but I like to think she's well ahead of her development timeline.

And here's one from a couple of weeks ago. I love her outfit, but it's one she can't wear anymore.

Happy Sadie. She's started smiling at us now and it just melts your heart. No joke.

She went to the doctor this past Monday and she's at 21.5 inches and weighs 9 pounds 4 ounces. Baby girl loves to eat!

We're preparing for a trip to the beach at the end of this month and I'm really excited to take her.
